Created here at Plunge’s workshop, this portrait of the Queen was built using spark plugs, petrol caps, hoses, gaskets, bumpers and headlights.

Starting off with a completely blank canvas of a wire mesh frame, the team, lead by David Parfitt, worked over a number of weeks to slowly build up the car parts to form Queen Elizabeth’s face, hair, jewellery and clothing.

It was a complicated process and required a lot of small shifts in each component to get as close a likeness as we could using car parts.

All in all, particularly given the difficult materials, we’re very proud of the Queen of Car Parts.
